Chingay reflections

On 25th January, our school organized a learning Journey to the Chingay Parade. I was excited even before going as I had never been to one before. Upon arrival, I could see all the different people in different costumes that were preparing for the parade. We were led to our seats by the ushers which was quite far off. When the parade started, performers started streaming in from the left across the entire road. There were many people screaming and cheering which made me feel that this event was extremely lively. I was amazed by many different vehicles, structures and especially the horses. At the end of the parade, it was already late at night. Then fire works of many different colours bloomed in the sky. Their vibrant colours and patterns were truly a sight. It was truly an unforgettable memory.

In my opinion, the trip to Chingay was an extremely successful one. Truthfully, we had enjoyed ourselves that evening, especially when the whole year 2 cohort from river valley cheered with enthusiasm at the end of the parade. We had displayed the RV spirit by participating actively and went home feeling contented and satisfied. It was an enriching experience as well! Through the parade, we got to know more about the Singapore culture. They had introduced many items with rich historical background, some which we have never even heard of before. Lastly, the vibrant colors and patterns of the parade never failed to amaze me. It was truly a fun and enjoyable night.

The Chingay parade was an extremely rare experience for all of us, I am eternally grateful to have been given the opportunity to participate in such a national and large scale event. Although I was only one of the audience members, I could feel the spirit of all the volunteers and performers, despite the long day, everyone still tried their hardest and gave their 100%. The Chingay parade also let me be part of showing the RV spirit, at the end of the performance, RV students were all cheering and clapping, it brought everyone's' spirit up and we were all hyped up again. The Chingay parade showed me the some of Singapore culture by having floats that portray our multi racial society, there were also floats of other races so that we get to learnt about them too because at the end of the day, the lesson is that we are all One Singapore just like the theme suggests "Colours of fabric, one people" despite all of us wearing the different colours of the traditional costumes, and some even with different coloured skin tones we all are sewed together like one big fabric and thus having one heart. I had a lot of fun and it was a great experience for me, if given the chance, I would definitely go again!

The Chingay Parade was spectacular. It was my first time watching the live performance of Chingay Parade I really enjoyed performance and appreciate the efforts put in by the performers. The costumes were very delicate and colourful. The colours used are very vibrant which captures my attention. The theme "Colours of Fabric, One People" was clearly brought out by the performance, and also the knitted cloths from different estates of Singapore. People of different races, wearing clothing of different colours, materials, but they united as one people to perform in the Chingay Parade and made it successful. It shows the unity, bonding, and no segregation among the people. So is the knitted cloths, people living in the same estate, although they might be from different races, they still put in the effort to participate in knitting the cloth together, showing their togetherness and unity as they did not reject because of the different races. They participated to knit the colours of fabric as one people. Personally, I feel that this performance was great. Not only is the performance and float display wonderful, the fact that the theme could be seen in the performances added on to the amazing performance. We could enjoy dances from different races and listen to the nice music played, it made the night a comfortable one.

In my opinion, i think that the chingay parade was very successful. It was a great opportunity for us to be at the chingay parade as not many schools were able to grab this rare opportunity. We went to the chingay parade as a whole year 2 cohort and the student councilors also accompanied us. During the parade, we did different kind of cheers led by the student councilors and this shows the rv spirit. It also act as a bonding time between my friends and I. We also learnt many things about the singapore culture such as the getai. This helped us increase our knowledge towards the singapore history. The colours at chingay was also beautiful and unforgettable. Overall i think that this was a fun and rare opportunity that we would encounter once in a life time.
